Designing with the ASC Patient in Mind
Aug 01, 2025
Gone are the days when patients accepted cold, clinical environments as the norm. Today’s ASC users expect spaces that are welcoming, calming, and easy to navigate. Grace Design Studios believes human-centered design is an essential to patient trust and satisfaction.
We incorporate natural light, warm materials, and biophilic design elements to reduce anxiety and create comfort from check-in through discharge. Our color palettes and textures are selected with sensitivity, creating environments that feel more like a wellness spa than a hospital.
Wayfinding is also a major focus. Intuitive signage, clear paths, and visual cues make it easier for patients and families to move confidently through the space. Less confusion means less stress.
These design elements have evidence-based results that tie to a myriad of clinical outcomes. Calmer patients mean more successful procedures, less need for sedation, and quicker recovery. Grace ASCs are places where people feel cared for, even before they meet their provider.
Best Practices:
- Use natural daylight and views to reduce anxiety
- Create intuitive wayfinding through layout and signage
- Select non-institutional materials with calming finishes
- Provide clear transitions between check-in, pre-op, and discharge
