Central Florida Behavioral Hospital

Central Florida Behavioral Hospital is expanding its capacity and enhancing its services with a new two-story building addition. This addition will add 48 Adult Acute Psychiatric beds to the existing 126 beds, increasing the hospital's total licensed bed count to 174. The expansion also includes the creation of 87 additional parking spaces and necessary upgrades to site utilities to support the growing staff and visitor demand. Thoughtfully designed, the building addition integrates secure green spaces, providing therapeutic outdoor environments for patient activities that promote mental well-being and recovery.

The design of the new building emphasizes accessibility and safety for all patients, particularly mature adults. Half of the rooms on each floor are oversized to accommodate the specific needs of this population, ensuring a comfortable and functional space for those requiring additional assistance. Additionally, the building addition has been constructed to meet stringent code requirements for building hardening and disaster preparedness. Positioned above the 100-year flood plain and hurricane stage III surge level (per FBC 419), the facility ensures resilience in the face of natural disasters, providing peace of mind to patients, staff, and visitors alike.

As part of the overall project, portions of the existing building will also undergo renovations. Key areas, including Intake/Admissions, Medical Records, Nurse Stations, and Staff Support areas, will be upgraded to improve operational efficiency. Patient Activity rooms and Administrative offices will also be renovated to provide a more welcoming and functional environment. The Kitchen, Dining, and Dietary Services areas will be expanded to accommodate the increased demand for food preparation and service, ensuring the hospital can meet the needs of its growing patient population effectively.
