Phoenix Children's Hospital East Valley Ambulatory Surgery Center

To meet the growing demand for outpatient surgical services from affiliated physicians and the surrounding community, Phoenix Children's expanded its East Valley Specialty and Urgent Care Center with a dedicated Outpatient Surgery Center (OSC). The project transformed existing shell and clinical space into a modern, efficient surgical environment designed specifically to support pediatric patients and their families.

The surgery center includes two operating rooms, an endoscopy suite, five pre-operative bays, six post-anesthesia recovery bays, and an on-site sterile processing department. Administrative offices, patient interview rooms, and a dedicated surgery waiting area support a seamless care experience, while staff amenities such as lockers, changing areas, restrooms, offices, and a break room provide essential operational support.

Designed around patient-centered workflow, the facility offers a clearly defined path from arrival through discharge. Patients enter through the main lobby and are directed to a dedicated surgery waiting area before being escorted to pre-operative care. Following surgery, patients recover in the post-anesthesia care unit before discharge through a separate pick-up area, ensuring privacy, comfort, and efficient circulation throughout the facility.

The center is designed to support a wide range of pediatric specialties, including gastroenterology, ophthalmology, general surgery, urology, and gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures. Equipped to accommodate advanced medical technologies, the facility provides a flexible platform for delivering high-quality outpatient care.

Throughout the design, special attention was given to the unique needs of children and their families. Private interview rooms and screened care bays enhance patient privacy, while vibrant colors, playful shapes, and child-friendly finishes create a welcoming and reassuring environment. The result is a state-of-the-art outpatient surgery center that supports exceptional clinical care while delivering a positive experience for patients, families, and caregivers alike.
