Vanderbilt University - Martha Rivers Ingram Commons

Residential Live and Learn

With their sights set on a new way for students to live on campus, Vanderbilt sought our expertise in conducting a campus-wide feasibility study, examining the possibilities for growth. Specifically, eight new sites for residential colleges were explored. For each site, program elements were identified. Associated cost were identified and potential schedules were established with Vanderbilt and a general contractor. Conceptual studies were developed for various areas. The result would be the Vanderbilt Commons, a new unique living-learning residential college environment providing housing for first-year freshman students in 10 separate houses with faculty and staff living among students. Five new residential houses were erected, with three LEED Golf certified and two LEED Silver certified.

Extensive Coordination

The project required great attention to detail and communication among the design team and consultants. MEP, Structural and Civil teams were led by our team in implementing a new underground utilities system, electrical, chilled water, steam and fire water. The chiller plant was redeveloped for all chilled water distribution for the Peabody side of the campus. Firewater distribution has brought new water service in for fire distribution.

Ahead of Schedule

The project was completed ahead of schedule enabling the university to increase revenue.
