Wooddale Fire Station #8
The new 9,000 SF fire station for the Wooddale community of East Baton Rouge. The one-story fire station employs sustainable and energy saving designs concepts that reflect its site and surrounding context in an exemplary manner. The design team introduced a simple yet elegant rotation in the floor plan that respects a presence inherently needed by two non-perpendicular street frontages and a predominantly north/south oriented context.

This powerful design rotation also affords picturesque views of the site’s mature oak grove to the northwest where the firemen can barbeque, direct alignment for the unconditioned apparatus bay to passively cool through cross ventilation of the prevailing southeastern winds, and an added bonus of a less severe turning radius for the truck drivers.
