A Passion for Healthcare

We are healthcare design specialists committed to shaping environments that support healing, dignity, and operational excellence. Our firm has earned a strong reputation for developing thoughtful design solutions centered on the needs of the patient populations our clients serve. Through years of experience working across diverse healthcare environments, our team has developed a deep knowledge base and a thorough understanding of regulatory requirements, clinical functionality, and operational flow across all levels of the Continuum of Care.

Healthcare environments are among the most complex facilities to design, requiring careful coordination of people, processes, and technology. At the same time, they are places where individuals experience some of the most meaningful moments of their lives—some challenging, some hopeful, and some joyous. As healthcare designers, we recognize the responsibility that comes with shaping these spaces. Each project must be approached with the same care, precision, and innovation that patients and families expect from their own treatment, ensuring environments that are compassionate, intuitive, and supportive.

This philosophy is embraced throughout our team.
“Since I began working at Grace Design Studios, I have come to understand that the built environment can improve the outcomes of patients while they undergo some of the most challenging and stressful events of their lives,” explains architectural designer Marcus Wiles, EDAC. “Healthcare design matters deeply to the clinicians, patients, and visitors that we serve, so we work to create healing environments while navigating the complex project conditions associated with healthcare design.”

Like the technologies and clinical practices housed within them, healthcare environments are constantly evolving. New care models, technologies, and operational strategies require designers to continually adapt. Grace Design Studios remains deeply engaged with these advancements to deliver efficient, cost‑effective, and forward‑thinking solutions for our clients.

“Healthcare designers must keep up with modern technologies that are being developed and constantly research alternatives to improve the workflow and functionality of a system in its entirety,” explains architectural designer Juan Cárdenas. “The industry is a collective process of ideas that come together to serve the greater good – it adapts with time as new challenges and design opportunities arise in the architectural world.”

Grace has embraced these opportunities by pioneering alternative design strategies that reduce patient wait times while increasing staff efficiency and clarity of movement. Our lean approach integrates virtual reality and 3D printing and imaging technologies, allowing teams to visualize, test, and refine concepts before construction begins. This process minimizes risk, improves outcomes, and ensures alignment between design intent and real‑world functionality. The result is a growing portfolio that spans all facets of the healthcare industry.

For our designers, the impact of this work is tangible. John Zierdt, CID, IIDA, Associate Principal and Interior Designer at Grace Design Studios explains, “We get to bring our knowledge to the table when we design healthcare spaces, knowing that the product is a calming and healthy environment for patients – that is satisfying work.”

Passion for healthcare design is shared across every level of the firm.
“My passion for healthcare design has grown out of a desire to work on a variety of complex multifaceted projects and the opportunities they provide,” explains Principal and Project Manager David Peabody. “With healthcare design, I’ve found that each project presents a different set of challenges… When considered alongside the fact that the end result of each project is space that has literally been designed to contribute to the wellbeing of all, it becomes very easy to stay passionate about what I do.”

At Grace Design Studios, healthcare design is not just a specialty—it is a purpose driven practice rooted in empathy, expertise, and impact.
