Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Detention Center
The Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Detention Center provides enhanced security, operational efficiency, and modern accommodations for the City of Ville Platte. Designed as a pre-engineered metal superstructure with insulated metal roof panels, the facility balances durability with functionality while creating a controlled and humane environment for both inmates and staff. The detention center is capable of housing approximately 200–210 inmates, including men, women, and juveniles, and is primarily organized around expansive dormitory-style housing.

Each dormitory is thoughtfully designed to maximize natural light and includes adjacent recreational yards with direct access to a multipurpose room used for chapel services and educational programs. A centrally located control room allows for direct supervision of the majority of housing units, reinforcing safety, visibility, and effective management throughout the facility. Supporting amenities include a fully operational kitchen, laundry facilities, an intake and booking area, a modernized public lobby, and dedicated medical and administrative offices.
In addition to dormitory housing, the facility contains 18 segregation cells for at-risk inmates, ensuring appropriate accommodations for varying security needs. Special consideration was given to diverse inmate populations through the inclusion of a dedicated female dormitory and three juvenile holding cells, each with private entrances to meet legal requirements and safeguard young offenders. A state-of-the-art medical suite further supports inmate health and wellness.
